Embarking on a journey to better health can feel incredibly intimidating. That’s what everyone talks about at the beginning of a new year right? By taking small steps and tackling one thing at a time, great changes can be seen in a short amount of time. We like to think of this as continuing on your journey of self care no matter what that looks like for you. In the spirit of February we are sharing our tips to be your own Valentine.

*Increase your water intake - This should be the first item on your list for better self care. Water increases the metabolism, flushes toxins from your body, relieves constipation and helps you to feel full after eating. Hydration is key to keeping your skin health in check too, and quite possibly your best anti-aging check.

*Journal - Spend a few days documenting what you eat, when you eat and how you feel after eating. This will show you if there are habits or triggers in your life that need to be addressed to benefit your wellness. You can do this with more than just food too.

*Get active - Simple exercises like a short walk at lunchtime or using small handheld weights while watching television will not only burn a few calories but will make you feel good! Every little bit helps.

*Get enough sleep - Are you getting 7-9 hours of sleep per night? Lack of sleep increases cravings and decreases weight loss. Be intentional about giving your body the time it needs to rest and repair because sleep is truly the ultimate healer.

*Eat real food - Cut the processed, pre-packaged food, try to focus the majority of your nutrition on whole foods. The empty calories in processed food won’t do anything for you. Whole foods will satisfy and nourish your body.

*Speak kindly to yourself - What does your "self-talk" sound like? Is it uplifting and encouraging? Or is it so negative you wouldn't dream of saying it out loud to another person? Be kind to yourself. We like Dr. Caroline Leaf for helping with this one. You can watch her TED Talk here:

*Try something new - Treat yourself to a painting class, cooking class or enjoy some products for your next bath that you wouldn’t normally try. We’ve got some recommendations out side of your regular skincare routine right here. By trying a new routine, you might just find the activity that you fall in love with.

*Find a partner - If you are surrounded by family or friends who are not embracing a healthy lifestyle, you will need to find an ally. Seek out a friend or an online community with the same goals as you do and you will find the boost you need.

*Make a goal - Whether it's running a 5k or fitting into a certain piece of clothing, working toward a specific goal will motivate you.

*Celebrate your progress - Pat yourself on the back when you've worked hard. Don't look at what you still need to do, look at how far you've come.

You’re on your way to better to better health!
